Dr. Yang ZHAO, Associate Publisher of Elsevier’s linguistics journals, visited the Center for Language and Literacy Education (CLLE) at the Faculty of Education (FED) of the University of Macau (UM) on 3 September 2025.

During the visit, Dr. Zhao met with Prof. Dongbo ZHANG, Associate Dean (Teaching and Curriculum Development) and Programme Coordinator of Doctor of Education, Prof. Shulin YU, Assistant Dean (Student Affairs) and Director of CLLE, Prof. Yang GONG, Programme Coordinator of Bachelor of Education Programme (Chinese) and Prof. Qin XIE. Prof. Yu introduced CLLE’s mission and research areas, while Dr. Zhao outlined Elsevier’s linguistics journal portfolio and editorial procedures. The meeting focused on several key topics, including journal editing practices, peer review of journal manuscripts, AI and academic writing, and the handling of AI-assisted manuscripts. The two sides also explored the possibility of holding an academic forum and initiating longer-term collaborative efforts.

Dr. Zhao later met with Prof. Lianghuo FAN, Dean and Director of Centre for STEM and AI Education of FED, to exchange views on journal publishing, discuss the feasibility of an academic forum, and explore the potential development of a new education-focused journal at UM.

Finally, Dr. Zhao engaged in further discussions with Prof. Mingming ZHOU, Associate Dean (Research) of FED, Prof. Nan ZHOU, Director of Centre for Educational Psychology and Early Childhood Education, and Prof. Yang GONG on prospective cooperative initiatives. The visit strengthened ties between UM and Elsevier and laid the groundwork for concrete next steps in scholarly communication and research dissemination in language and literacy education.
